What is Reiki? Reiki is a type of energy healing in which energy is channeled for the purpose of healing. It is similar to spiritual healing and advanced Chi Kung energy projection. Like some other forms of alternative healing such as acupuncture and accupressure, it involves encouraging the flow of personal energy to release energy blockages, but it also involves the channeling of universal energy at different frequencies. Through Reiki, one can heal on the spiritual and emotional levels as well as the physical. Through Reiki, one can receive distant empowerments as well as distant healings and they can be very powerful. This can happen because Reiki operates at the spiritual level, and there are no time and space boundaries restricting energy. Having been aware at a young age of my special Gift to cleanse and heal along with my training in the Usui Traditional Reiki Style, I have combined the two to practice a form of Reiki that is somewhat different from others in the West, and in many ways is more like the original Japanese style founded by Master Usui, with less stress on symbols, although they are taught, and more stress on intent and intuition. There is much contrast in historical information, hand positions, and even the use of symbols between different styles, but regardless of whichever style one works with, they operate by the same principles and utilize the same healing, loving, Reiki energy. Reiki is not a religion, therefore does not conflict with any religious beliefs. Reiki is, however a driving force in my own spiritual path, and can be very spiritually advancing for anyone drawn to it. You can open up your spiritual energy with your higher self and except the unconditional, loving energy to use it for the purpose of healing. When Master Usui founded Reiki, it was originally for a spiritual path, it just so happened that it was found to be effective for the purpose of healing as well and was expanded upon in this capacity which brings it to the energy healing form that it is today. There is no stress on "how" it works, it simply does. There is no stress on "why" it is, it simply is... and it is wonderful! On the simplest level, Reiki treatments/healings can be relaxing and stress reducing. On a deeper level it can be cleansing, healing, and even life-changing. Reiki healers are channeling energy to areas that need it and the body can use this energy to do the healing on its own. Reiki has its own consciousness, so to speak, and will go where it is needed and facilitate healing if it does not interfere with life lessons, (as we all learn from pain and suffering). During a Reiki session, one may feel warmth, tingling, pulsing, a breeze, (or nothing at all), depending on your personal sensitivity to subtle energy and depending on the amount/flow of Reiki to the area. Regardless of how the energy is felt, it is there, and it moves where it is needed. One does not have to feel it for it to work. I like to incorporate crystals and elements from other energy healing modalities into my healing sessions depending on the needs of the individual. I have found that crystal healings, combined with chakra balancing music and Reiki, make for a very powerful and unique healing experience.
